20 years ago today, Jam 88.3 was born. And unlike other rock stations in the metro at that time, it went through some changes throughout the years.
THE FIRST JAM
Prior to its switch to Jam, the station was formerly known as Citilite 88.3, which aired a smooth jazz format. From its inception in 1986, it initially aired a Soft AC format, with a jazz track played per hour. Overtime, more jazz tracks are added every hour. In October 1988, it fully shifted to a smooth jazz station.
When Jam 88.3 made its debut in 2003, it aired a Modern AC format with the slogan “Your Kind of Mix”. Joe D’Mango was involved in running the station during its first few years. I’m not that familiar with its first era. So, let’s move on to the next decade.
