A Year Into The Community Quarantine

sirmac's avatarMC's Corner

It’s been a year since Community Quarantine was implemented. A quarantine which was slated to last for only a month has lasted indefinitely. Students didn’t get to enjoy the last few weeks of the school year. A lot of malls and establishments closed shop for a couple of months. Until now, some of them remain closed. My plans for the rest of that month and that summer were cancelled.

A lot of events are held online nowadays, such as school activities, classes, seminars and conferences. Movies and concerts can be watched online. Shopping can be done online. Nonetheless, most of these can still be done on-site, albeit on a safer way. It took me a couple of months to adjust to the “new normal” lifestyle. Nonetheless, I was lucky enough to find some free time for some of my plans. I was also able to overcome a couple of subjects…

sirmac's avatarMC's Corner

A week short of its 10th year, GMA News TV will become GTV starting tomorrow.

Dubbed as the country’s first free-to-air news and public affairs channel, GMA News TV started losing steam 3 years after its debut by adding a handful of entertainment programs. Despite reviving the Dobol B block in 2017 and its move from Channel 11 to Channel 27 in 2019, it only managed to maximize its news and public affairs programming to at most 80%.

By September 2020, GNTV’s news and public affairs programming, including its Dobol B block, began decreasing with the addition of movie blocks, anime in the morning and a couple of asianovelas. By November that year, GMA struck a deal with NCAA. At the same month, the channel revealed its new shows, most of them which are youth-oriented. Among them are The Lost Recipe and anthology My Fantastic Pag-Ibig, both which started…
